Job Description

The Paramedic is clinically supervised by the site lead or other physician extenders on the work site and ultimately reports to the Program Manager. The Paramedic reports to the Program Manager, designated Manager or Site Lead as directed by the Program Manager.

The Paramedic will deliver services in one of two settings: (1) Field Health Unit (2) Medical/trauma hospital. The Paramedic Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records the information on patients' charts. Paramedics may be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. The Paramedic will perform emergency skills, such as managing respiratory, trauma, and cardiac emergencies, and patient assessment. Typically, a Paramedic will deal with bleeding, fractures, airway obstruction, cardiac arrest, and emergency childbirth.  Paramedics administer medications orally and intravenously, interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), perform endotracheal intubations, and use monitors and other complex equipment.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHS is recognized.

Positions are Notional – contingent upon contract award.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides care to patients.  Assists patients with personal hygiene, nutrition, comfort, and safety.
  • Prepares patients for examinations. Provides routine information related to medical treatments and procedures.
  • Measures and records vital signs, collects specimens, and escorts patients and visitors.
  • Records and reports patient information.  Retrieves laboratory test results and patient files.
  • Prepares examining rooms, selects and lays out medical supplies, maintains medical equipment.
  • Maintains comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment.
  • Performs clerical functions related to medical activities.
  • All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will document care delivered and follow up care required.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
  • Maintains the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Must have completed a formal Paramedic training program leading to a diploma, certification or degree.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Licensed Paramedic.
  • Successful completion of additional education and training in anatomy and physiology as well as advanced medical skills that resulted in a certification.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold a Paramedic License or Practicing License as a Paramedic or country equivalent.
  • Must hold and maintain ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support and BLS – Basic Life Support. 
  • PHTLS (Post Hospital Trauma Life Support) or ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) are highly desirable.
  • Experience in both EMS and Clinical/Hospital experience are highly desirable.
  • All health care providers and medical support staff must have recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid, current Driver’s License.
  • Must have a current Passport from country of origin. 
  • Must sign a CHS Foreign Service Agreement (FSA) and is bound to the terms and conditions of the FSA.
  • Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write and communicate in English.
  • Shall demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic word processing programs and the CHS Medical Management Systems software.           

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be confirmed by a medical examination to be “medically and dentally fit” in accordance CHS Medical Readiness Guidelines and Policies and/or as dictated by the Client
  • No conditions that would prevent the wear of personal protective equipment; including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor and chemical/biological protective garments or conditions that would prevent the capability of donning, lifting or carrying of up to 70 lbs. of referenced gear while running to a bunker or protected area in the face of perceived or imminent danger.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment; travel in Iraq is required by surface or air.
  • The climate is desert-like, hot, and prone to dust storms.
