Job Description

Detainee Custody Officer - Overseas

The Role

Working as a DCO within our team will provide you with the opportunity to maintain high standards of security and safety whilst promoting the welfare and decency of detainees. This is a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. As you gain experience within this challenging role, we’ll support you throughout your time to grow and develop.

You’ll be transporting immigration detainees within the UK and internationally, ensuring they are escorted on both short and long-haul flights and completing visa runs whilst maintaining high standards of security and safety.

Salary and Working Hours

  • Salary: £20, 670 + £1.68 per hour Flying Allowance (paid for all hours of work excluding office hours, meetings and training)
  • Contractual Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Full flexibility will be needed as this is a 24-hour service, 365 days a year. Our current shift pattern requires 10 days of availability which is then followed by 4 days off.
  • Please note: Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to reach Gatwick within 1.5 hours travel time and live within 50 miles of RH6.

Being a Detainee Custody Officer demands the people’s skills, patience, resilience and professionalism to handle an ever-changing day. Our people come from a variety of backgrounds, you will have the communication and interpersonal skills to support colleagues, work together in teams and deliver an exceptional service to our detainees. Previous experience of dealing with sensitively in a wide variety of people who have been agitated, confused or angry would be an advantage.

Training

Once you have passed our selection and vetting process, you’ll begin your Care & Custody career completing a 7-week initial training course (ITC), continuing your development over the next 12 months with on the job mentoring and assessments to gain our accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.
