Specialising in custodial management services we are responsible for managing Europe's largest Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), just outside Heathrow in UB7 0HB.
We care for over 1200 immigration detainees providing custody services, welfare, regime and recreational activity.
Job Description
Detainee Custody Officer
Heathrow Immigration Removal Centre ( IRC)
£25,006 per annum (Subject to confirmation).
44 hours a week, shifts covering days and nights
We’re looking for respectful, diligent, caring people to join our team.
As a Detainee Custody Officer (DCO) you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of security and safety whilst promoting the welfare & decency of detainees staying at our immigration removal centre.
If you’re the right one for us, you’ll be reliable with a natural moral compass to ‘do the right thing.’ Someone who easily interacts with people, quickly building rapport but maintaining professional distance.
You’ll enjoy spending time with people from different cultures and backgrounds, have a non- judgemental approach to life, great communication & problem-solving skills, and the ability to keep calm in a crisis.
Full flexibility will be needed to work a mixture of short and long day shifts, with a set of 7 night shifts every 6 weeks, followed by 7 days off. The centre is operational 24/7/365 and your rolling roster covering 51 weeks will help you plan your work/life balance.
Qualifications
No specific role experience or qualifications are required to be a DCO as full training and supported development are given. Experience of dealing sensitively with a wide variety of people who have been agitated, confused or angry would be an advantage.
You’ll begin your Care & Custody career completing an 8-week initial training course (ITC), continuing your development over the next 12 months with on the job mentoring and assessments to gain our accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.

Applicants must:
Be a UK citizen, Citizen of the Commonwealth with their own indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage) or EEA citizen.
Have a valid and in date passport, with no restrictions on their stay in the UK. Please note Visa’s in out of date passports cannot be accepted as proof of Right to Work in the UK. A Biometric card alongside a current in- date passport must be provided.
Have continuously resided in the UK for the previous 5 years. Applicants must not have spent more than 3 months at any one time overseas during the previous 5 years.
Not be Bankrupt.
This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and Applicants must be prepared to undergo an Enhanced DBS check, employer referencing for the previous 5 years and vetting to the level of Counter Terrorist Checked (CTC) if offered a role.
