Communications Operator (Watchkeeper/Signallers)
Nationality: Australian
Security Clearance: NV2
Role
The Communications Operator (CO) is responsible for management maintenance and
monitoring of the project communications system including:
1. maintaining all communication equipment
2. maintaining tactical tracking hardware readiness and associated
software
3. managing deployed tactical radio systems and cryptographic handling
4. providing refresher training on all systems to personnel
5. maintaining all electronic equipment fitted to the armoured vehicles
including but not limited to Electronic Countermeasure (ECM), satellite
phone, dashcam, Digital Video Recording (DVR) and GPS tracking
6. managing the frequency database
7. 24/7 monitoring of all project communication networks (including
handheld and base station radio communications, monitoring vehicle
tracking system, responding to all incoming telephone calls,
coordinating Australian Embassy booking tasking’s and coordinating
with the communications cell on technical tasking)
8. assisting the client with IT and communications issues and
9. providing communications refresher training for Australian Embassy
Personnel
10. track mobile movements of all Australian Embassy staff.
Skills and Experience
The CO must have:
a) at least two (2) years ; experience operating in high risk environments
b) relevant military or civilian qualifications and experience in repairing and
maintaining communications equipment
c) relevant qualifications and experience in monitoring communications
equipment
d) sound problem solving skills and
e) excellent communication skills.
Desirable
a) previous experience working in a diplomatic environment
b) previous in-country experience in a similar capacity and
c) a working knowledge of the local language.
